At Onward Growth Psychiatry, we go beyond symptom management. We offer integrative psychiatry for self-pay clients across Virginia who are ready to address the root causes of emotional distress—mind, body, and spirit.

Whether you’re navigating burnout, anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, our approach is designed to help you feel like you again—with care that respects your individuality.

What Is Integrative Psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry blends the best of traditional psychiatric care (such as medication management) with holistic, trauma-informed, and evidence-based practices like:

  • Mindfulness and somatic techniques
  • Nutritional and lifestyle support
  • Psychotherapy or collaborative care
  • Root-cause investigation of emotional and physical symptoms
  • Supplements that support relief from your individual symptoms
  • Complementary therapies, like light therapy and somatic healing

This is mental health care that doesn’t treat you like a diagnosis. It treats you like a whole person.

Who We Work With

Our integrative psychiatry services are ideal for self-pay clients in Virginia who are:

  • Looking for more than just medication
  • Experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, or low mood
  • Navigating life transitions or emotional overwhelm
  • Interested in holistic care that aligns with their values
  • Feeling stuck, even after trying therapy or medication elsewhere

We work with children 5 and over and adults across Virginia, offering secure virtual visits statewide.

Why Out of Network?

As an out of network practice, we can offer longer sessions, deeper collaboration, and care that isn’t dictated by insurance checklists. That means:

  • No diagnostic labels required for treatment
  • More time to get to the root of what’s going on
  • Total privacy and autonomy in your healing journey
  • Custom treatment plans—not one-size-fits-all care

You deserve care that fits you, not your billing code.

If you would like to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, we are happy to provide you a superbill. Please be aware that superbills will mean that you must have a diagnostic label on your file. We are happy to talk through this more with you if you have any questions.

Our Approach Is:

✅ Compassionate
✅ Personalized
✅ Root-cause focused
✅ Evidence-informed
✅ Designed for growth and change—not just stabilization

You don’t have to choose between medication and mindfulness. Here, you can explore both—and more—in a safe, supportive space.

Integrative Psychiatry FAQs

Answering the most common questions we receive about our integrative psychiatry services. Schedule a free consult call →

Is integrative psychiatry just regular Western medicine plus supplements?

Integrative psychiatry uses both Western and complementary treatments. Sometimes medications are needed, but they are best taken in combination with bodywork, lifestyle modifications, supplements, and therapy.

Does integrative psychiatry discourage the use of medicine?

Medicine is a valuable tool, but it is not the only form of treatment available to you. We use treatments like light therapy, supplements, body work, and somatic work to help you find healing.

Does working on nutrition mean you want me to lose weight?

No! We are healthy at every size (HAES) providers. We work with you on your nutrition to make sure your body is getting the macronutrients it needs, not because we want you to lose weight. For example, most women get about 40 grams of protein a day, when the ideal is around 90 grams! Nutrition is a significant part of our lives, and we won’t feel our best unless we are eating to fuel our bodies and brains.

What if I only want natural remedies?

Integrative practitioners assess each person as an individual. Some people benefit from natural remedies and some benefit more from Western medicine. Most people benefit from a combination. We meet you where you are – if you want to focus only on supplements and lifestyle, then that’s what we’ll focus on.

Is integrative psychiatry evidence based?

Integrative psychiatry is evidence informed. As research continues to provide us more insight into health and wellbeing, practice is updated to incorporate new findings and deeper understanding of how people function.
