What is Trauma?

As a domestic violence survivor, I understand how difficult it is to recovery from trauma, which is why I developed this trauma recovery intensive. Trauma changes the brain – the way we think, feel, process the world around us, and how we encode information are all impacted when we experience trauma.
Trauma is not one thing. There is no particular event that is, or isn’t, traumatic. The way we experience an event is what makes it traumatic, or not. That means that two people can experience something very similar, and one may be traumatized and the other may not be. If you went through something and think “why can’t I just get over it?” – please know that you are not weak, or over sensitive, or fixated on the wrong thing.
There also isn’t a trauma scale. There is no rating system that allows us to say “well, what happened to me wasn’t that bad, because what happened to this other person was worse.” How you feel, and how traumatized you are, is valid. There is no need to compare with others or downplay what you experienced.
I want to be clear – I believe you. I believe what you say happened to you. Your feelings are valid. Healing is possible.
Trauma Recovery is Possible
Trauma changes us, sometimes permanently. That means our brain may always be a bit different compared to pre-trauma. If you experienced multiple traumatic events, especially early in life, you may not have a “pre trauma” perspective. You may feel that you have been through so much that it’s not possible to change. I am here to tell you that healing is possible! Healing doesn’t mean the wound leaves no mark – it means that the wound closes and we can move forward with living our life. The scar may remain, and that’s okay. Our goal isn’t to eliminate scarring – it’s to heal the internal wound and move forward.
Trauma Recovery Intensive
Trauma work is hard. It’s hard to unpack your story with a provider. It can feel re-traumatizing to share what you went through. In order to provide healing work to clients who have experienced trauma, I offer a brainspotting intensive. The purpose of the intensive is to allow us to do months worth of work within a few days. Think of an intensive like concentrated therapy – instead of meeting for an hour every week for months to work on trauma recovery, we spend hours together in two half day sessions that let us go deep into the experience of healing.

What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a tool that allows up to locate, focus, process, and release experiences that we typically cannot access with our conscious mind. Brainspotting works through the brain-body connection. Have you ever noticed you tend to look away when in a deep conversation? Have you ever noticed you have a tendency to stare in a certain direction when you’re thinking? Those tendencies are not random! Brainspotting uses spots in your field of vision to unlock trauma and memories. We use your gaze to find the ‘hotspots’ in your brain – because the gaze and the brain are connected! What Makes a Brainspotting Trauma Recovery Intensive Different?
Save Time and Money
If you add up the cost of months of therapy and compare it the cost of an intensive, you can actually save money. You will absolutely save time. Traditional therapy can often take months or years to achieve the same goals.
Alternative Format
Maybe your schedule doesn’t allow for weekly therapy, or you’re suffering and need relief now. Brainspotting intensives aren’t limited to 50 minutes. You have hours of dedicated time to go deeper.
Add On Service
You can do a Brainspotting Intensive while working with a talk therapist. You don’t have to abandon the other work you are doing in therapy. An Intensive can help you dive deeper and process more, which can ultimately lead to talk therapy being more effective.
