Psychotherapy & Medication Management for College Students in Virginia

Real Support. Real Answers. No Judgment.
Mental health support for college students, including therapy and medication management, can make or break the college experience. College can be one of the most transformative times of your life—but also one of the most overwhelming. Between academic pressure, social challenges, identity exploration, and big life decisions, it’s easy to feel lost, anxious, or burned out.
At Onward Growth, we help college students and young adults navigate this unique stage of life with compassionate mental health care that includes both psychotherapy and medication management. Whether you’re neurodivergent, questioning your path, or just need someone to talk to—you’re in the right place.
If you’re attending college in Virginia—like UVA, VCU, JMU, Virginia Tech, or one of the many community colleges—you deserve access to mental health care that understands your stage of life and unique challenges.
We Work With:
ADHD | OCD | Autism | Eating Disorders | Anxiety | Depression | Identity | Burnout | Life Transitions
You’re not broken. You’re adapting. We help college students understand their brains, process emotions, and build a life that works with their unique wiring—not against it.
ADHD in College Students
Struggling to focus, stay organized, or finish assignments? You’re not lazy, and you’re not alone. ADHD in college can show up as:
- Chronic procrastination
- Missed deadlines
- Emotional overwhelm
- Burnout or inconsistent performance
- Difficulty managing time and motivation
We offer evidence-based strategies, supportive psychotherapy, and when appropriate, medication management to help you thrive—not just survive—academically and emotionally.
Autistic College Students
If you’re autistic (diagnosed or self-identified), you may be navigating a campus culture that feels overwhelming or invalidating. We provide neurodiversity-affirming therapy that honors your communication style, sensory needs, and lived experience. Tabitha specializes in supporting people with autism as they navigate life.
We support autistic students with:
- Masking fatigue & autistic burnout
- Social anxiety & isolation
- Sensory overload
- Executive functioning struggles
- Identity exploration & self-acceptance
Life Transitions & Identity Work
College is a time of big questions. Who am I? What do I want? What comes next?
You may be:
- Questioning your major, relationships, or gender/sexuality
- Dealing with family pressure or culture clash
- Feeling disconnected from who you thought you were
- Comparing yourself constantly to others
Therapy can be a space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect—with your values, goals, and authentic self.
OCD in College Students
When Your Brain Won’t Turn Off
College life brings uncertainty—and for students with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), that uncertainty can feel unbearable. You might know your thoughts don’t make logical sense, but that doesn’t stop the anxiety from building—or the compulsions from taking over.
Natalie offers specialized support for college students living with OCD, including psychotherapy, medication management, and real strategies for reclaiming control.
Common signs of OCD in students:
- Intrusive thoughts (about harm, contamination, identity, etc.)
- Compulsive rituals (repeating, checking, counting, cleaning)
- Mental compulsions (reassurance-seeking, rumination)
- Fear of failure, moral “wrongness,” or making irreversible mistakes
- Constant doubt—even over small decisions
You are not your thoughts.
OCD can attach itself to anything—your grades, your relationships, your values—and make it feel impossible to relax or move forward. We use evidence-based approaches tailored for young adults, to help you face fears, reduce compulsions, and gain freedom from the OCD cycle.
OCD Treatment That Fits Student Life
With our integrated approach to therapy and medication:
- We meet you where you are—academically, emotionally, and developmentally
- We help you understand your OCD themes without judgment
- We can prescribe and manage medications (like SSRIs) that support your therapy goals
- We offer telehealth appointments to fit your campus or class schedule
Whether you’ve been diagnosed or just suspect something more is going on, we’re here to help you stop managing OCD alone.
Telehealth Support for College Students in Virginia
We offer online therapy and psychiatric services to college students anywhere in Virginia, including Norfolk, Richmond, Charlottesville, Blacksburg, Fairfax, and beyond. If you’re in school in Virginia, help is just a click away.
Onward Growth is an Out of Network provider, meaning we do not work directly with insurance companies. The care we provide is private – no information is shared with your insurance company or your school unless you choose to share it. You can learn more about our fees here.
What We Offer
Psychotherapy
We offer a judgment-free space to explore your thoughts, build coping tools, and manage stress, anxiety, or depression.
Common therapy goals for students:
- Improving focus and motivation
- Reducing anxiety and intrusive thoughts
- Understanding neurodivergence
- Healing from perfectionism or people-pleasing
- Navigating dating, relationships, and self-worth
Medication Management
Sometimes, therapy alone isn’t enough—and that’s okay. If appropriate, we can prescribe and manage psychiatric medications like ADHD meds, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety medications.
Because we offer both therapy and med management, your care is coordinated, personalized, and more efficient. One provider. One plan. Better outcomes.
Payment & Insurance
We are a self-pay and out-of-network provider—which means:
- We do not accept insurance directly
- We can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement
- No insurance restrictions means more privacy, flexibility, and control over your treatment
Why students (and parents) choose private pay:
- Longer, more personalized sessions
- No diagnosis required to start treatment
- Freedom to explore a wide range of topics, not just “medical necessity”
- Easier access to combined therapy and medication
Therapy Built for You
You’re more than a student. You’re a whole person—navigating life, stress, expectations, and change.
Whether you’re dealing with ADHD, adjusting to college life, exploring your identity, or just feeling stuck, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
