The Basics

What states do you provide mental health treatment in?

I see clients that reside in the state of Virginia. If you do not have a permanent address in VA, I cannot offer psychiatric services. I provide career coaching services for anyone in the United States.

What ages do you see?

I see clients ages 6-65. I am currently only accepting clients between ages 10 and 55.

What can I expect during my first appointment?

During your first appointment I obtain a thorough history we develop your goals for treatment.

Services I Offer and Conditions I Treat

What mental health conditions do you treat?

I treat women’s issues, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders, eating disorders, and PTSD. This is not a comprehensive list; please reach out to me if you have a specific question.

I think I may be on the autism spectrum. Do you offer adult autism assessments?

Yes, I offer autism assessments. If you want to make an appointment primarily to explore if you are on the spectrum, select the Adult Autism Assessment (a 90-minute appointment) when you schedule. If you would like to establish care with me as your provider first and then explore an ASD evaluation at a later time, we can do that too.

I think I have ADHD but don’t have a diagnosis. Do you diagnosis adults with ADHD?

Yes, I offer both adolescent and adult ADHD evaluations. Please make an initial appointment with me and we can explore if ADHD is an appropriate diagnosis for you.

Medication Management

What type of medication do you prescribe?

I utilize medication management for those who need stabilization through medication. I prescribe all categories of psychiatric medications.

Do you prescribe controlled medications?

I prescribe categories of psychiatric medications. I do not prescribe daily benzodiazepines.

Do all your clients take medications?

No, medication is not for everyone. Many of my clients do take medications, but I believe there is not “one size fits all” solution to mental health challenges.

Do I need an appointment to get a re-fill?

We will work together to determine the appropriate frequency of appointments. I need to see you at least every 3 months to continue to prescribe medications. Your personal treatment plan and medications may require more frequent appointments.

Do you prescribe medications for ADHD?

If appropriate, I do prescribe medication for ADHD.

How do I know if medication is right for me?

We have open and transparent discussions to develop treatment plans and goals. It’s critical to be open and honest with me regarding your concerns and questions about medications.

Therapy

Can Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners provider therapy?

Yes! Therapeutic services are a core aspect of PMHNP care. A benefit of seeing a PMHNP is being able to obtain therapy and medication management from a single provider.

What type of therapy do you offer?

I frequently use methods derived from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused therapy. Depending on your unique needs, I may also incorporate aspects of Dialectic Behavioral therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamics.

I already have a therapist. Do I have to leave them to see you?

It’s great you have a therapist! My care can adjunct what you and your therapist are working on. Perhaps you need medication management and specific lifestyle or supplement interventions. Or perhaps you are seeking a definitive diagnosis or an ADHD assessment. I can help you in my areas of specialty while you continue seeing your primary therapist.

What are the benefits of therapy?

Therapy allows us to gain insight into ourselves, process emotions and memories, and regulate our nervous system. Therapy offers us an opportunity to learn coping skills and find freedom from the worry, trauma, or depression holding us back from living our best life.

What if my family wants to participate in my therapy?

You are my client, so involving a family member or significant other in an appointment will be at your request and only if it is therapeutically beneficial to you. I do not offer family therapy or marital counseling.

I don’t want therapy; I just want medication. Can I see you for just medication management?

I incorporate therapy into all our visits. Even if your primary treatment plan is regarding medication, discussing coping skills and emotional regulation management is still important.

Booking an Appointment and Payment

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept any insurance. I am an “out of network” provider.

What are the benefits of not using insurance?

Often, insurance companies dictate how often clients can be seen, the duration of their appointments, and when treatment ends. I believe the best people to make those decisions are the provider and client together, not an insurance company. Being out of network also allows me to ensure total privacy, meaning I do not share any of your information with your insurance company, and by extension, your employer.

Can I request reimbursement from my insurance company?

Yes, I can provide you a superbill after your sessions that you may use to request reimbursement from your insurance company. I cannot intervene with your insurance on your behalf, and I do not offer any advice regarding if they will reimburse you or not. Call your insurance company and tell them you are seeing an out-of-network provider, and you would like to file a behavioral health claim. They will provide further instructions.

Do you have evenings and weekends available?

I believe in accessible healthcare and offer both evening and weekend appointments.

When is payment due?

Payment is due the day of your appointment.

What manner of payments do you accept?

Credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards.

How do I book an appointment?

Clients can use the contact me form to schedule an appointment.

What are the costs?
  • New client appointments: $300
  • 60-minute follow up session: $300
  • 30-minute follow up session: $150
  • For established clients only: 15-minute check in: $75
  • Late cancel/no-show fee: $100

Telepsychiatry

Can I use my phone for my appointment?

Yes, you can use any device that is connected to the internet. Please keep in mind that a good connection and stable device are needed. I cannot provide excellent service if I cannot see you, so please ensure you are in a well-lit space and your device is stationary.

How often can I schedule follow up appointments?

I will work with you to determine an appropriate follow up schedule to meet your needs. Most clients meet with me every other week initially, and then gradually decrease the frequency to once every one to two months.

Do you have any in-person appointments?

All appointments are virtual.

Policies and Procedures

What is your refund policy?

Payments are made at the time of booking. If you need to reschedule your appointment, you can do so up until 24 hours prior to your appointment without incurring a late fee. I do not offer any refunds after visits have occurred.

What is your process for cancelling an appointment?

Appointments cancelled greater than 24 hours in advance do not result in a late cancel/no-show fee. Appointments cancelled 24 hours or less in advance will result in a late cancel/no-show fee.

What is your policy on missed appointments?

Missed appointments are considered no-shows and will result in a no-show fee. If you no-show to greater than 2 appointments in a 90-day period, I will no longer be able to serve you.

Do you have a sliding scale fee schedule?

I do not have a sliding fee schedule. I encourage you to find a practice that can accommodate your needs financially; I want to be able to provide you care when you need it without causing undue financial burden.

How do you handle confidentiality?

I use a secure HIPAA compliant electronic health record for all telehealth appointments, messages, and refill requests.
