The Basics

What states do you provide mental health treatment in?

Therapy and Medication management: We see clients that reside in the state of Virginia. You do not have to live permanently in VA, but you must be physically located within the borders of the state at the time of your appointment.

Tabitha offers skills building groups, and coaching services for anyone in the United States.

What ages do you see?

Both Tabitha and Natalie see clients ages 5-55.

What can I expect during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is when you share your goals and get to know your provider. You will be asked about your background, medical information, and any life history that impacts your care.

Services I Offer and Conditions I Treat

What mental health conditions do you treat?

Both Tabitha and Natalie specialize in ADHD. Tabitha further specializes in women’s issues, Autism, OCD, mood disorders, eating disorders, and PTSD. Natalie further specializes in OCD, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, military families, and healthcare workers. These are not comprehensive lists; please email us at hello@onwardgrowthpsychiatry.com if you have questions about your specific situation.

I think I may be on the autism spectrum. Do you offer adult autism assessments?

Yes, Tabitha offers autism assessments. Tabitha specializes in high masking adult women.

I think I have ADHD but don’t have a diagnosis. Do you diagnosis adults with ADHD?

Both providers at Onward offer ADHD evaluations for ages 5 and up.

What services do you provide?

We believe in an integrative approach, meaning we provide medication management, therapy, and guidance on the right supplements and lifestyle changes for you. Tabitha also offers autism evaluations, groups, and coaching services.

Medication Management

What type of medication do you prescribe?

We prescribe all categories of psychiatric medications.

Do you prescribe controlled medications?

We prescribe all categories of psychiatric medications.

Do all your clients take medications?

No, medication is not for everyone. Some of our clients do take medications and instead see us for therapy and guidance on holistic healing, such as supplements and light therapy. We believe there is not “one size fits all” solution to mental health care.

Do I need an appointment to get a re-fill?

We will work together to determine the appropriate frequency of appointments. We need to see you at least every 3 months to continue to prescribe medications. Your personal treatment plan and medications may require more frequent appointments.

Do you prescribe medications for ADHD?

Yes, we do, including stimulants.

How do I know if medication is right for me?

We have open and transparent discussions to develop treatment plans and goals. It’s critical to be open and honest regarding your concerns and questions about medications.

Therapy

Can Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners provider therapy?

Yes! Therapeutic services are a core aspect of PMHNP care. A benefit of seeing a PMHNP is being able to obtain therapy and medication management from a single provider.

What type of therapy do you offer?

We frequently use methods derived from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused therapy. Depending on your unique needs, we may also incorporate aspects of Dialectic Behavioral therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamics.

I already have a therapist. Do I have to leave them to see you?

It’s great you have a therapist! Our care can adjunct what you and your therapist are working on. Perhaps you need medication management and specific lifestyle or supplement interventions. Or perhaps you are seeking a definitive diagnosis or an ADHD assessment. We can help you gain clarity while you continue seeing your primary therapist.

What are the benefits of therapy?

Therapy allows us to gain insight into ourselves, process emotions and memories, and regulate our nervous system. Therapy offers us an opportunity to learn coping skills and find freedom from the worry, trauma, or depression holding us back from living our best life.

What if my family wants to participate in my therapy?

You are the client, so involving a family member or significant other in an appointment will be at your request and only if it is therapeutically beneficial to you. We do not offer family therapy or marital counseling.

I don’t want therapy; I just want medication. Can I see you for just medication management?

All our appointments have an aspect of therapeutic communication and care, though we can focus primarily on medication management if that’s your preference.

Booking an Appointment and Payment

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept any insurance. Onward Growth is an “out of network” provider.

What are the benefits of not using insurance?

Often, insurance companies dictate how often clients can be seen, the duration of their appointments, and when treatment ends. We believe the best people to make those decisions are the provider and client together, not an insurance company. Being out of network also allows us to ensure total privacy, meaning we do not share any of your information with your insurance company, and by extension, your employer.

Can I request reimbursement from my insurance company?

We can provide you a superbill after your sessions that you may use to request reimbursement from your insurance company. We cannot intervene with your insurance on your behalf, and we do not offer any advice regarding if they will reimburse you or not. Call your insurance company and tell them you are seeing an out-of-network provider, and you would like to file a behavioral health claim. They will provide further instructions.

Do you have evenings and weekends available?

Both Natalie and Tabitha offer limited evening and weekend appointments for established clients.

When is payment due?

Payment is due 24 hours before your appointment.

What manner of payments do you accept?

Credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards.

How do I book an appointment?

You can self-schedule here.

What are the costs?

For standard appointments:

  • New client appointments: $300
  • 60-minute follow up session: $300
  • 30-minute follow up session: $150

Telepsychiatry

Can I use my phone for my appointment?

Yes, you can use any device that is connected to the internet. Please keep in mind that a good connection and stable device are needed. We cannot provide excellent service if we cannot see you, so please ensure you are in a well-lit space and your device is stationary.

How often can I schedule follow up appointments?

We will work with you to determine an appropriate follow up schedule to meet your needs. Most clients meet with their provider every other week for therapy and every 4 weeks for medication management during the initial stage of treatment. Most clients gradually decrease the frequency of visits to once every one to three months, but you are welcome to see your provider every week or every other week for therapy.

Do you have any in-person appointments?

All appointments are virtual.
